Iran & India Expand Ties in the ICT Sector
Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology attended the 5th Global Conference on Cyberspace, GCCS 2017, held in New Delhi, India. During his visit, he met with Narendra Modi, India’s Prime Minister and Manoj Sinha, India’s Minister of Communications and discussed potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.
Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi, Iran’s Minister of Information and Communications Technology made a speech on Iran’s achievements in the ICT sector and enhancing cybersecurity at GCCS 2017 in New Delhi. Jahromi stated that during the past four years, Iran has increased its international internet capacity for domestic use by a factor of 15, capacity of its internal IP network by a factor of 20, the number of its broadband users by a factor of 10 and the country’s north-south data transit capacity by a factor of 15. He added that Iran currently has 19 provincial data centers up and running and electronic services have tripled during this period.
“More than 23,000 software development teams have been formed, 4,500 startup companies offered their products in Elecomp Exhibition 2017 in Tehran, and 150,000 new jobs were created,” said Iran’s ICT Minister at GCCS 2017. “Local content has increased by four times, and while we have experienced a three folds increase in the market size for ICT related services and products, we have planned for another three folds increase in the next five years,” he added.
